What’s your career backstory? When did you realise your interest in fashion was leading to a career?

When I was in secondary school and fashion was my tool for self expression – I knew for sure it was the direction I wanted to go in!

I studied finance in UNILAG and International Business Management in Northumbria University

I’m a self taught designer with a lot of interning experience in Nigeria under brands like Zebra Living as Kiki Kamanu and in London under Harvey Nichols and Liberty

What major industry changes have affected your working life and what changes do you think will affect it in the next 3-5 years?

Lagos Fashion & Design Week giving us a structure for showing in the year – so you know you have to have collections prepped twice a year. Global recognition – the world is watching us now, so we can’t rest , we’ve got to keep going and more stockists which means we have to keep producing.

Digital media, technology and globalisation  play a major role in all our lives now, varying by degree from industry to industry. How do you a) rise to these challenges when the change is disruptive b) on professional and personal levels how have you leveraged these changes to improve your personal or professional brand.

I think brands have to be progressive and understand the volatility of the creative industry . If a brand plans to survive it needs to continuously strategise and not rest on one strategy at all.

It appeared Toke Makinwa whose book “On Becoming” has a similar title was overjoyed about the news and went to praise Michelle Obama on her Instagram page for her book and the story she has to tell not forgetting to mention that their books both have similar titles

 

The post read:“Way to go MO!!!!! I wrote a book called “On Becoming…”, it’s the first of many as I am still on a journey to become! She’s written a book called “Becoming”. Everyone has a story to tell no matter who you are or where you are from. We are all traveling thru life and It is important to share your story. You never know who needs your strength to get thru their demons.

 

“Everything that’s happened to you, happened for you and the more you break the barriers of shame, accept the past and use it to shape who you become for the future; the more you rise. For rather unknown reasons the post was perceived to be more of a self appraisal than a goodwill message to the former first lady,by a fan who didn’t mince words in sending a harsh message which read:
“Girl this is not about you.. Let make that clear.. Lol,” she wrote.

Toke blantantly refused to let this slide and blasted the fan in a post which read:
“Oh shut up already! Her story is not mine but it’s one of her journeys. What have you done with your life?Who’s life have you made better with your own story?” she replied.

It may be recalled that Toke Makinwa had on Sunday, November 27, 2016, launched her book “On Becoming.” The event which held at The Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos, was attended by close friends, family, industry colleagues, and well-wishers.

' Writing BECOMING '

Michelle Obama has announced her memoir titled “Becoming.”

Obama shared the news on her social media pages, linking to the book’s official website.

“Becoming” will be released on the November 13, 2018.

The book will cover her childhood, her life as a working mother, and as the First Lady of the United States.

Describing the book, she wrote: “Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.”

Writing BECOMING has been a deeply personal experience. It has allowed me, for the very first time, the space to honestly reflect on the unexpected trajectory of my life. I follow her on Ig and in her last insta story i think, it was during Valentine period or shortly after, she showed an orange box that had small HERMES letters written on it . She just opened it slightly and closed quickly and captioned it with big heart that said "When you are loved". She is not missing Musa i tell you.
